Visual Narratives, Aesthetics and Decoloniality: Imagery and the Construction of the ‘Other’ brings together, across two volumes, reflections on the role of images and visual narratives in shaping forms of alterity. This first volume places theoretical debates on visuality at the center of contemporary debates on coloniality and its conte stations. Bringing together scholars from diverse geographical and disciplinary contexts, the volume examines the multiple – and often seemingly innocuous – ways through which images participate in the production of power, knowledge, and social imaginaries. More than analyzing representations, the chapters invite readers to question the structures that shape ways of seeing and making meaning, opening space for plural epistemologies and new possibilities for imagining the contemporary world. How can visual narratives help us understand, question, and reimagine alterity? 

Tomás Cajueiro holds a PhD in Journalism from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain). His work explores the intersections between visual culture, photography, coloniality, and decolonial ae sthetics, with particular interests in visual narratives, memory, and alternative epistemologies. 

Estevão Bosco holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Campinas (Brazil). He is a social theorist whose work explores the implications of cultural globalization and environmental crises for the ories of social action and social change, with particular interests in critical theory, postcolonial studies, and intercultural communication.
